Uses  Of Glentek

Glentek is used in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ( ALS ).

ALS is a type of motor neuron disease in which attacks the nerve cells, which are responsible for sending instructions to the muscles, leading to weakness, muscle wasting, and paralysis.

The breakdown of nerve cells in a motor neuron disease can be due to too much glutamate (a chemical messenger) in the brain and spinal cord. Glentek stops the release of glutamate and this can help prevent nerve cells from being destroyed.

What You Need To Know Before You Take Glentek

Do not take glentek:

if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to riluzole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)

if you have any liver disease or high blood levels of certain liver enzymes ( transaminases )

if you are pregnant or breastfeeding .

if you have liver problems: skin or whites of the eyes have turned yellow (jaundice), itching all over your body, you feel nauseous, suffer from vomiting

if your kidneys are not working so well

if you have a fever : it may be due to a low number of white blood cells , which may cause an increased risk of infection

If any of the above applies to you, or if you are not sure, tell your doctor who will decide what to do.

Children And Young People

If you are under 18 years of age, the use of Glentek is not recommended as data are not available for this patient group.

You can drive and use tools or machines unless you feel dizzy or dizzy after taking this medicine.

Uses:

 This medication is used to treat a certain type of nerve disease called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also commonly called Lou Gehrig's disease). Riluzole helps to slow down the worsening of this disease and prolong survival. However, it is not a cure for ALS, and it does not reverse nerve damage or muscle weakness. Riluzole is thought to work by protecting the nerves in the brain and spinal cord from too much of a natural substance called glutamate that may be part of the cause of nerve damage.

HOW TO USE:

 Take this medication by mouth, usually every 12 hours on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal or as directed by your doctor.Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often than prescribed. There is no increased benefit with higher doses, but the risk of side effects is greater.Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day in the morning and evening.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomach pain, or numbness/tingling around the mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, cough, persistent sore throat).Seek immediate medical attention if any of these rare but very serious signs of liver problems occur: yellowing eyes/skin, persistent nausea/vomiting, severe stomach/abdominal pain, dark urine.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.This is not a complete list of possible side effects. Rilutor 50Mg Tablet is a medicine for the treatment of a nerve disorder called the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It is used for delaying the process of the said disease and not a complete cure. It does not have the ability to repair or reverse the damages done to the nerves by the disease. It is available in both tablet and liquid variety to be consumed by the patient as per convenience. It also prevents further damage to brain cells and nerves. Studies have proved Rilutor 50Mg Tablet to be beneficial in anxiety problems and depressions in some cases. It prevents harmful glutamate from damaging nerves in the brain.

Side effects of this drug may include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, muscle weakness and trembling, headache, fever, abdominal diseases, pancreatitis etc. Overdose of Rilutor 50Mg Tablet may be harmful to the patient resulting in acute toxic encephalopathy, methemoglobinemia etc.

Some medicines like the ones which affect liver enzymes and that decreases riluzole. Before starting of this medicine consult and share with your physician about existing medications especially amitryptiline, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, rifampin, theophylline etc. Rilutor 50Mg Tablet is edially consumed in empty stomach, but doctors advice is supreme.
